Advice to PNMs

Hi there! I'm Maloree Inlow, a sophomore at Georgia Southern University, and I'm excited to share a little bit about myself with you + some college advice!!

As someone who could not wait to get out of their hometown and experience a new lifestyle, here's my take on college life!

The key to your freshman year transition is going to be balance. College is a time of growth and self-discovery, and finding the right equilibrium between studying, self-care, and socializing is essential for overall well-being and success. Achieving balance allows you to excel academically while also taking care of your mental and physical health. It involves managing time effectively, setting priorities, and establishing healthy boundaries. Some things that help me find balance while at school are using a planner, having some reset days, taking time for myself, and making time for friends and loved ones!

Coming from personal experience, step out of your comfort zone!! College is all about trying new things! I grew up as an athlete and played multiple sports all throughout college. I wanted to continue keeping up with my health and wellness as I entered college. I started trying out the group fitness class at the RAC (GSU’s on campus gym) and remembered how much fun working out is! I knew that eventually I would want to teach my own classes and advocate fitness to others as well. I took these matters into my hands and am now a certified spin and pilates instructor! I never thought I would be teaching 20+ people and inspiring them to care about their wellness, but it is truly so rewarding. No matter what new hobby it is, I encourage everyone to find something they like and stick with it!

With that being said, college can be stressful!! The constant exams, quizzes, homework, labs. It feels like it is never ending. Worrying about an assignment is so small compared to this amazing life you have to live. I encourage everyone to do their best, but remember that you are only in college once! HAVE FUN! If you do everything with your best ability there will be no need for stress. However, when the time comes to sit and study, find a comforting place to do so. My favorite places to study are local coffee shops and Panera!

Lastly, become best friends with your roommates!! These are going to be the people you live with for an entire year! I was blessed to have 3 amazing roommates and our year of endless sleepovers was the best time ever. We had roommate dinners, movie nights, ice cream trips, and a ton of laughs. Even if you have absolutely no idea who they are, be kind! These girls could end up being your future bridesmaids because I know mine will be!

I hope my advice eases your nerves! I promise it is not as scary as it may seem. College is definitely a huge transition but always stay true to yourself, your friends, your loved ones, and the lord and this will be the BEST time of your life! Kisses !!!!

XOXO,

Maloree Inlow
