Alpha Delta Pi

Freshman Year Follow-Up

Before attending Georgia Southern University, I knew I wanted to join Greek Life. However, looking back, there was no way to fathom how much Alpha Delta Pi would soon mean to me in the upcoming year. I cannot say recruitment was easy. Every sorority has amazing qualities to offer, but what I saw from Alpha Delta Pi was different. Throughout my childhood, my mom continuously reminded me of a quote that says, “Surround yourself with people who see your value and remind you of it.” Thankfully, these are the type of people I found through ADPi.

When I walked into our first sisterhood, I hardly knew anyone in my pledge class. I was honestly scared to go. However, looking back, the girls I met that day have become the closest, most caring, and supportive people I have in my life. Every college student can admit that the first semester is full of crazy changes and adjusting to living away from home. However, I believe that Fall ‘20 had a whirlwind of adjusting due to starting college during a global pandemic. The changes that this pandemic brought took a major toll on my mental health. Online learning was a huge change for me that caused a lot of stress and anxiety. Thankfully, ADPi allowed me to have a community of girls who understood my struggles and were going through the same things. My sisters constantly reminded me of my strengths and academic ability during this time.

Many people genuinely believe that sororities are only for date nights and socials. This year is perfect proof of how wrong that idea is. During the first semester, we were unable to have socials or date nights. However, there were multiple other events (with many COVID-19 precautions) that allowed me to be involved in my sorority and campus activities. We were able to have sisterhoods, philanthropy events, and we were encouraged to support other sorority and fraternity’s philanthropy events. It is truly heartwarming to think about how many lives we have changed through Greek Life as a whole. I could go on and on about the amazing events we had this year, but my favorite would have to be Hot Dogs and Dogs, where we enjoyed a meal with our sisters and our sweet pups! (Fun fact: My dog, Ringo, now loves ADPi just as much as I do!)

My first year at Georgia Southern University has been a huge blessing. As I reflect on my freshman year, I see how much I have grown and bettered myself as a person. I am continuously thankful to ADPi for pushing me out of my comfort zone and showing me that I can make a difference in my community. Thinking back to the quote I mentioned earlier, I can confidently say that Alpha Delta Pi has allowed me to surround myself with people who see my value and continuously remind me of it. I cannot wait to see what is in store for me and my amazing sisters in our years to come at Georgia Southern! Boom Boom!!!

With love, Lillian Lord Fall ‘20
